Conservative Dentistry, Turkey Objectives: The main purpose of the in-vitro study was to determine whether the thermocycling affect the bond strength of dentin adhesives. Methods: Seventy-two human third molar teeth, without any caries were included in the study and randomly divided in two groups (Group I as experimental group and Group II as control group). Large occlusal cavities with 3mm in depth were prepared using by high-and low speed instrument under water cooling. Cavities were restored with Clearfil AP-X restorations by using Clearfil SE Bond,Clearfil Protect Bond, Clearfil Liner Bond 2V as adhesives. Teeth were stored in distilled water for 24h at 370C. The teeth in experimental group was thermocycled (x2500, 30s dwell time at 5-550C). Then teeth were sectioned vertically with the thickness of 1mm and the adhesive interface was trimmed for obtaining 1mm2 area. Approximately 4 slams were collected each teeth. Fracture mode analysis was also performed. Afterwards, the specimens were subjected to micro tensile bond strength test by Universal Testing Machine with crosshead speed 1mm/min. One-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test was used for statistics. Results: No statistical differences were observed as compared to control groups for Clearfil SE Bond(36 ± 4,3 MPa) Clearfil Protect Bond (29,6 ± 3,9),Clearfil Liner Bond 2V (38,8 ± 2,5),with experimental groups for Clearfil SE Bond (32,8 ± 5,2),Clearfil Protect Bond (26,4 ± 4,2) Clearfil Liner Bond 2V (37,6 ± 5,4). 96 %of the fracture was observed between dentin and adhesive. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that there is no statistical change in the bond strength of evaluated adhesives whether the thermocycling is applied or not. This conclusion supports the idea that the only thermocycling test is not enough for simulating oral conditions for evaluating the bond strength of adhesives. | ||
