Conservative Dentistry, Turkey, 2 Istanbul University, Dept. of Pedodontics, Turkey Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pulp pressure on the bond strength of dentin adhesives. Methods: To reach our goal, two dentin bonding adhesives, Clearfil SE Bond (CSE: Kuraray) and Single Bond (SB: 3M-Espe) were applied with the instructions of manufacturer, to the cylindrical cavities (2mm in depth, 3x2 mm dimension) on the buccal surface of premolars (n=8 for each adhesive) which are planned for extraction for orthodontic reasons. Teeth were extracted after the polymerization process is completed. Same procedure was performed in-vitro to another eight premolars which were extracted within 2 weeks. Following all cavities were restored with a hybrid composite (Ecusit), teeth were stored in distilled water for 24 hours at 37 0C. Then teeth were sectioned into bucco-lingual directions and approximately 2 to 3 slam were obtained with 1 mm thickness. After trimming procedure for arranging the interfacial area 1mm2, specimens were subjected to micro tensile bond strength (µTBS) testing with the crosshead speed 1 mm/min. Data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's (p<0,05). Results: Mean µTBS values in (MPa) were 19,7 ± 6,8 (in-vivo) and 29,6 ± 5,4 (in-vitro) for CSE while, were 16,8 ± 3,6 (in-vivo) and 28,4 ± 7,8 (in-vitro). The results of the statistical analysis exhibited that the bond strength values are significantly lower in in-vivo groups as compared to in-vitro ones. Conclusion: Hence we concluded that the pulp pressures of teeth through the dentin tubules adversely affected the bond strength of evaluated dentin adhesives. | ||
