Methods: Patients included in the study (26 males, 14 females) ranged in age from 6 to 18 years with a mean age of 9.75 years. The characteristics of supernumerary teeth were obtained from radiographs and clinical examination results and were confirmed by surgical intervention. The number, localization, direction of eruption, form and clinical management of supernumerary teeth per patient were also presented in the study. Results: Males were affected more than females with a sex ratio of 1.8:1. Thirty-five percent of the patients had one supernumerary tooth, 50% had double teeth and 15% had three or more supernumeraries. Sixty three percent of all teeth were conical in shape, and 88.7% were in downward position where the rest were in invertion. Ninety two percent of all occurred in premaxilla where 8% were located in the premolar and molar regions. The therapeutical approach of supernumerary teeth varied on the position and the complexity of the clinical case. As surgical intervention was required for all cases, orthodontic treatment was performed additionally in some of the cases. Conclusion: Early diagnosis for supernumerary teeth allows the most appropriate treatment, often reducing the extent of surgery, orthodontic treatment and possible complications. This retrospective study outlines the modes of presentation, diagnosis and management of supernumerary teeth and also emphasizes the significance of teamwork approach.
