| 0019 Adherence of Candida albicans to Silicone-based Soft Lining Materials | ||

AKOgLU, Marmara University, Ýstanbul, Turkey Objectives: Colonization of soft lining materials with microorganisms, particulary Candida albicans, is a common clinical problem. Silicone-based soft lining materials have been found to be more susceptible to Candidal adhesion. This study investigates the adhesion of Candida albicans to silicone-based soft lining materials. Methods: Six different silicone-based soft lining materials have been used in this study (Molloplast B, Mollosil, Ufigel P, Ufigel C, Soft Liner and Luci-sof). For each soft lining materials, seven specimens ( 10 mm 10 mm 3 mm in diameter ) have been prepared. Sterile specimens have been contaminated with Candida albicans, adherent cells calculated by light microscopy. For all tested materials, the adhesion was observed for Candida albicans. Results: There were statistically significant differences between soft liners and Candidal adhesion(p<0.001). The adherence of C.albicans was the greatest with Ufigel P ( 253.29 yeast cells/mm²) lining material and the lowest with Ufigel C ( 65.14 yeast cells/mm²) lining material. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that silicone-based soft lining materials exhibited the Candidal colonization. | ||
