Objectives: To illustrate the pressing need of using panoramic radiographs along with full mouth radiographs as a routine in dental examination in order to facilitate early diagnosis of intra oral pathologies. Methods: Use of periapical radiography is a routine in dental examination. Routine application of panoramic radiography, a simplified extra oral procedure, may help however, to early diagnosis of all possible defects in both maxillary and mandibular arches and their supporting structures in a single image. Results: In this report, we present two interesting cases of dentigerous cysts diagnosed unintentionally by using panoramic radiography. Dentigerous cysts develop around the crown of an unerupted or supernumerary tooth. The patient typically has no pain or discomfort. Conclusion: The findings of our study clearly underline the importance of resorting to panoramic radiography as a routine in dental examination for early diagnosis of intra oral pathologies. The most important feature of dentigerous cyst is its potential to expand. If not diagnosed at an early stage, it may progressively and painlessly grow to dimensions enlarging the jaw, causing facial asymmetry, severely displace or resorb the teeth next to it, as well as the involved tooth and may cause spontaneous fractures in the mandibula.
