Objectives: Flexural strength and elastic modulus are the parameters used to evaluate the material's elasticity and degradation under stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the flexural strength and elastic modulus of composites with different organic matrix, filler load and filler size (Admira, Alert, Artemis, Supreme (Dentin and Body) and Clearfil Photo Posterior) and compare the results with that of a hybrid composite, TPH. It was aimed also to determine the effect of aging in water on these parameters. Methods: 14 samples measuring 25x2x2 mm were prepared from each material and subjected to flexural testing using an Instron testing machine (Llyod Instruments, UK) at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min after storage in water for 24 hours and 1-month. The results were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range tests Results: Clearfil Photo Posterior exhibited the highest elastic modulus at 24 hours and 1-month and the highest flexural strength at 24 hours (p<0.05). At 1-month the highest flexure strength values were those of Clearfil Photo Posterior and TPH (p=0.05). Admira exhibited the lowest flexural strength values although no statistically significant differences were found from those of Supreme Dentin, Artemis and Alert at 24 hours and Supreme Dentin and Artemis at 1-month (p=0.05). Supreme Body was found to be superior than Supreme Dentin in regard to both parameters (p<0.05). Aging in water did not influence most of the materials. Only the flexural strength and elastic modulus of Admira decreased and the flexural strength of TPH increased (p<0.05). Conclusion: Filler load level and filler themselves rather than the organic matrix have an important effect on the flexural strength and elastic modulus of composites. The effect of aging in water on these properties was material dependent.
