M. NITKA, A. FRIEDMANN, B.-M. KLEBER, and J.-P. BERNIMOULIN, Humboldt-Universitat, Berlin, Germany Cross-linked N-Telopeptides of type-I collagen (NTx) is considered a specific marker for bone metabolism. Calprotectin (MRP) is strongly related to turn over rate of sulcular PMN's. Longitudinal monitoring of protein levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) sampled around teeth and around implants, which were placed into augmented bone, may reflect inflammatory/remodeling processes during implant function. Objectives: levels of NTx and MRP in GCF-samples in correlation with clinical parameters gained at teeth and implants were longitudinally studied. Hypothesis: biologic reactions around implants placed into previously augmented bone should not differ from those around natural teeth during 3 years of functional loading. Methods: Probing pocket depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BoP), Plaque Index (PI), crevicular fluid flow rate (CFFR), and GCF-samples were studied 2 and 3 years after implants were loaded in 24 partially edentulous adults (mean age: 47 years). Deepest site were recorded. Each patient received complete recall treatment including tooth/implant cleaning and scaling at each visit. GCF was sampled by Periopaper for 15s, CFFR was assessed (Periotron 6000, Oraflow, USA). Concentrations of calprotectin and NTx were determined by ELISA (BMA, Switzerland; Ostex, USA). Results:
Strong negative correlations were found between NTx-levels and CFFR in presence of bleeding for teeth and implants at both examinations (p=-.002,-.011,-.002,-.000, respectively). Level of NTx correlated with MRP-level in teeth at 2-years visit in presence of bleeding (p=.001). Conclusion: Due to absolute levels of NTx and MRP, periimplant reactions in augmented bone were similar to those around natural teeth; correlations with clinical parameters were significant in presence of inflammation in both compartments. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
