Human Embryonic Stem Cells: The Time is Now

Sponsored by: Plenary
Description: Currently, there is a great deal of excitement about the possible clinical applications of human embryonic stem cells. Dr. Fisher will summarize several of these applications and the Federal regulations that limit their implementation. She will then explain their origin before describing the process by which these cells are derived from human embryos. During the presentation, she will show numerous pictures of the derivation process as well as a movie of a colony of human embryonic stem cells, which illustrates important aspects of their behavior, including the ability to replicate in an undifferentiated state (self-renewal).
