OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the long-term effectiveness of a soft liner (Sofreliner Tough, Tokuyama) after two years of service. METHODS: Characteristics of 14 relines on 10 patients were evaluated by patients and investigators as excellent (4), good (3), fair (2), or poor (1). RESULTS: The majority of the characteristics at two years had a "very good" rating (between 2.79 and 4.0). The median rating was excellent, since the median for 2/3 of the evaluations was 4. The following characteristics were rated: surface roughness, [3.43; 4][Mean; Median]; resiliency, [4.00; 4]; surface condition, [3.00; 3]; adhesion, [3.50; 4]; cracking, [3.79; 4]; mucosal condition, [3.93; 4]; stain, [3.57; 4]; odor, [3.86; 4]; separation, [2.93; 3]; discoloration, [3.64; 4]; adjustability, [3.64; 4]; Candida albicans, [3.00; 4] and the total evaluation of dentist, [3.07; 3]. At the two years evaluation, 14 of the original 10 patients rated their overall satisfaction as good [2.79, 3]. CONCLUSIONS: The comparison of characteristics day one and two year after relining showed significant differences for the separation, [(3.96±0.19, 2.93±1.14)(Mean1+SD1, Mean2+SD2); (4, 3)(Median1, Median2)]; the surface condition, [(4.0, 3.00±0.88); (4, 3)]; the total evaluation of dentist, [(4.0, 3.07±0.92); (4, 3)]; and the patient satisfaction, [(4.0, 2.79±1.12); (4, 3)] (Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA, p<0.05). | ||
