Sponsored by: Microbiology / Immunology and Infection Control, Oral Medicine & Pathology, Periodontal Research
Description: Modern molecular diagnostic techniques have enabled the detection of a wide range of mammalian viruses in the human periodontium, and some viruses are strongly associated with destructive periodontal disease. This symposium will bring the audience up-to-date on periodontal viral infections, and propose avenues for studies into the control of periodontal viruses. b) The symposium is aimed at investigators working with periodontal diseases and oral pathology. c) The symposium aims to stimulate further research into viral aspects of periodontal and oral diseases. d) The symposium will cover i) the association of periodontal diseases with herpesviruses, papillomaviruses and HIV, ii) the pathogenesis of periodontal viral infections, and iii) the host response to periodontal and oral viral infections
