[AADR] Recent Advancements in Understanding the Etiology of Cleft Lip and Facial Development

Sponsored by: Craniofacial Biology, Oral Medicine & Pathology
Description: Cleft lip and cleft palate are common birth defects with a relatively unknown etiology. The majority of basic research in this area has focused on the development of the secondary palate even though clefts of the primary palate are much more prevalent in humans. The focus of this symposium will be the development of the primary palate with the goal of presenting recent knowledge gained from animal models and human genetic studies. The symposium is targeted towards a broad audience as each presenter will provide fundamental basic principles that will be the foundation for highlighting recent findings. It is anticpated that the audience will have a firm understanding of facial development, recent and emerging techniques and key areas needing additional research
