Using Questionnaires in Oral Health Research and Education: Strategies that Could Work for You

Sponsored by: Education Research
Description: Given the widespread use of questionnaires in oral health research and education, the issue of rigor is important. This workshop will draw on real empirical studies to exemplify the strengths and weaknesses of using questionnaires. Three contrasting examples will be discussed: a large-scale postal survey, an online questionnaire, and a questionnaire designed to track change over time. Our general aim is to develop understanding of this data-gathering technique, provide practical insights and tips, and strengthen academic rigor. Issues discussed will include instrument design, data collection (including sampling issues), and analysis considerations. The target audience is researchers and teachers with an interest in developing their skills in using questionnaires, and who may have limited experience of this type of data-gathering technique. Participants will be actively involved in tasks and in discussion
