| Mineralization Genes of Bones & Teeth: the New Evolutionary Synthesis | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sponsored by: Mineralized Tissue | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Description: Some very interesting evolutionary relationships have recently been proposed concerning the genes/proteins involved in Mammalian biomineralization. This symposium seeks to bring together leading scientists that have identified intriguing similarities among the genes encoding extracellular matrix proteins involved in vertebrate biomineralization, and have proposed that these similarities reflect decent from a limited number of ancestral genes. Special emphasis is placed on the amelogenin gene and its history on the sex chromosomes. It is hoped that bringing these scientists together will lead to an expert discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of their ideas and lead to a better understanding of the common features in different biomineralization systems. This symposium is aimed at scientists interested in biomineralization and the new theories on its origin. Supported by Procter & Gamble and the Straumann Institute | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
