9:00 AM-11:00 AM Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre M2, Symposium - Group/Division Sponsored
Stem-cell-based Tissue Engineering of Craniofacial Structures

Sponsored by: Craniofacial Biology, Implantology Research, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine & Pathology, Periodontal Research, Pulp Biology
Description: This symposium proposal is designed to provide the IADR attendee with a synopsis of the current status of craniofacial tissue engineering by stem cells. In this rapidly growing field, the four selected topics and speakers will cover a relatively broad spectrum of the tissue engineering of craniofacial structures such as the tooth, periodontal ligament, mandibular condyle, cranial sutures and soft connective tissue. All the selected speakers have been active in the field of stem cell based tissue engineering of craniofacial structures, as evidenced from their publication records. The symposium is aimed at those IADR attendees with cell/molecular biology, engineering or clinical background. Each speaker will attempt to draw potential clinical relevance by utilizing a few specific examples. In response to an inquiry by the Craniofacial Biology Group, the following IADR Groups have written to express their interest in co-sponsoring this symposium: Oral Medicine and Pathology, Periodontal Research, Pulp Biology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This widespread interest is an indication of the potential draw of audience from several oral, dental and craniofacial disciplines and specialties. We attempt to provide the audience with an update of stem cell isolation and differentiation, scaffold design and in vivo implantation studies leading to the engineering of several craniofacial structures such as the tooth, periodontal ligament, mandibular condyle, cranial sutures and soft connective tissue. Ample time will be allowed for Q&A after each presentation and at the end of all 4 presentations, and for speaker interactions with the audience
