| Psychological Stress and Oral Health: Behavioral and Biological Mechanisms | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sponsored by: Behavioral Sciences, Microbiology / Immunology and Infection Control | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Description: The mind-body connection is of increasing interest in understanding determinants of health status. The purpose of this symposium is to review existing literature on the relationship between stress, health and oral health and to present state of the art research on social and biological mechanisms contributing to oral manifestations of stress. The symposium is aimed at all levels of investigators and will promote partnerships between behavioral and biological scientists. With this interdisciplinary initiative we hope to bring together social/behavior and basic science researchers to generate discussion of integrating social and biomedical approaches to assessing oral health outcomes. Specific emphasis will be given on the inflammatory pathways that regulate stress responses. The symposium will cover four broader topics: Behavioral and Physiological Mechanisms of Stress and Health; Chronic Stress and Subjective Oral Health; Psychological Stress and Risk of Temporomandibular Disorder and Stress and Oral Infection | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
