Overview and Introduction to the Revision of the IADR Code of Ethics

Sponsored by: IADR Ethics Committee & Board
Description: The IA Ethics in Dental Research Committee has been charged with '…five members who have expertise in ethics to disseminate the IADR Code of Ethics to Divisional Committees on Ethics and to sponsor education programs through symposia and workshops on ethical conduct in research. The Ethics committee shall also serve in an advisory capacity to the IADR Board on ethical issues’ In discussion with the IADR Board we have been encouraged to develop a series of symposia and workshops to redevelop the Code of Ethics. The concept has the full support of the IADR Board. To this end our Goal for 2005-06 is to foster the adoption and expansion of the Code of Ethics with local Divisions and Sections. Hence, a symposium and workshop is requested to develop ethics themed programming for the Brisbane meeting. Aims of the Symposium and Workshops: 1. Review and consider revision of the IADR /AADR Code of Ethics (www.iadr.org/about/iadr/ethics.html, 2.Promote the need to be conversant with the IADR/AADR Code of Ethics in each Federation, Division and Scientific group and its implications in research and higher education governance, 3. Promote the need for each member to be conversant with the IADR/AADR Code of Ethics, 4.To consider through discussion the implications of changes in research practice, global developments and expectations of individuals, communities and governments on the IADR/AADR Code of Ethics, 5. To disseminate good practice through the organisation, 6. To encourage the pursuit of collaborative ethical research in the dental community for the benefit of mankind, 7.
