| NIDCR Dialogue Panel with the AADR and ADEA Presidents | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Description: Because dentistry is a scientific health profession, dental education must include a broad exposure to research , whether graduates pursue a career in private practice, academics or industry. The Institute of Medicine noted in its 1995 report, Dental Education at the Crossroads, that “in addition to creating new knowledge, the research mission includes disseminating such knowledge, educating clinicians to critically assess scientific and technological innovations, and educating future researchers.” The leadership of ADEA and AADR have long recognized the importance of research in dental education and have worked closely with NIDCR over the years to develop programs and mechanisms to meet these needs. Several new programs have been announced over the last few years. In addition, the NIH Roadmap Initiative is another opportunity for dental institutions to obtain funding for collaborative research. The panel will discuss the current status of dental education and research, review NIDCR research training grant programs, identify gaps, and suggest ways forward for the future. An interactive session with time for questions from the audience is planned | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
