Systematic Reviews in Dental and Craniofacial Research

Sponsored by: Periodontal Research, Evidence-based Dentistry Network
Description: The systematic review (SR) is a tool that can investigate research questions across multiple studies of a broad range of research types. High quality SRs minimise bias and provide comprehensive summaries of dental research data. This symposium is aimed researchers attending IADR (including clinical and non-clinical) who might wish to gain a foundation level knowledge of systematic reviews. The symposium will provide a general introduction to systematic reviews and highlight some of the techniques and skills that are integral to producing high quality research and will not be limited to randomised trials alone. Learning objectives; to understand the use and limitations of systematic reviews; to understand initial steps in developing a systematic review; to understand how bias is minimised in a systematic review; to provide guidance on embarking on a systematic review. This is joint symposium between the Evidence-Based Dentistry Network and the Periodontal Research Group. The support of Software of Excellence, GlaxoSmithKline and Colgate is acknowledged
