Objectives: To evaluate the effects of 1,23% acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) gel on three low fusing ceramics through superficial roughness, weight loss analysis and the surface topography using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Methods: 10 ceramics discs were confectioned (8mm x 2mm) following the manufacture's instructions: (I) IPS d'Sign (Ivoclar – Liechtenstein); (II) All Finesse (Ceramco – USA); (III) Titankeramik (Vita Zahnfabrik – Germany). The samples were immersed into APF for 4 minutes and 60 minutes. All samples were measured before and after APF exposure. The analysis of the surface roughness (Ra) were analysed with surface roughness tester (Hommel-Tester T200), the weight loss were made with analytical scale (Metter Toledo-AB 204 model) and topographical description with SEM. The data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test (p<0,05). Results: Mean and standard deviation (Ra) values were: before immersion (I) 0,49334 ± 0,15540; (II) 0,53199 ± 0,15266; (III) 0,68± 0,16938; after 4 minutes: (I) 0,72337± 0,10188; (II) 0,65335 ± 0,33105; (III) 0,81 ± 0,16183; after 60 minutes: (I) 0,72337 ± 0,10188; (II) 1,04 ± 0,33105; (III) 1,02663 ± 0,15659. The weight loss values (%) were: after 4 minutes: (I) 0,01678 ± 0,02736; (II) 0,02278 ± 0,01997; (III) 0,01444 ± 0,021; after 60 minutes: (I) 0,11505 ± 0,1176; (II) 0,05592 ± 0,02322; (III) 0,2122 ± 0,01967. The results showed that APF had an effect statistically significant on decreasing the mass in group I; on increasing the roughness in groups II and III. The time factor had accumulative effects in all groups for 60 minutes. SEM images showed evidence of surface degradation in all ceramics. Conclusion: The APF etching resulted in superficial degradation on all low fusing ceramics studied.
