1796 A Clinical Trial Comparing Two Tooth-Whitening Products

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safty of Whitestrips and Simply White paint-on gel to a negative control. about bleaching. Methods: This is a randomized, parallel, examiner-blinded, single-center study, 52 subjects with complete untreated maxillary anterio teeth will be divided into 3 groups randomly. During the treatment phase, subjects will be provided with either Crest Whitestrips, Simply White paint-on gel or a negative control. They will receive oral status interviews and oral soft tissue exams before and after tooth bleaching. Tooth color (L*, a* and b*) will be recorded via digital imaging which is equipped with a Fujiton A8x12BMD, 1:2.8/12-96mm zoom lens and a linear polarizer to permit cross-polarized light.. Summary statistics of the color parameters will be caculated for each treatment group and visit. Results: Tooth color changes from baseline (DL*, Da* , Db*) have show significant differences between Whitestrips and Negative Control (P<0.0001), Simply White and Negative Control(P<0.01), Whitestrips and Simply White(P<0.0001). During oral status interview and oral soft tissue exam, only 2 subjects have tooth sensitivity while using Whitestrips. Conclusions: Both Whitestrips and Simply White paint-on gel are effective and safe , while the former shows better effect. Tooth Sensitivity after using Crest Whitestrips is usually of mild severity and resolves with 1-2 days after product use is discontinued.
