| Oral Connections to Aspiration Pneumonia | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sponsored by: Geriatric Oral Research, Oral Medicine & Pathology | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Description: The etiology of aspiration pneumonia is multi-factorial. An association between oral organisms, compromised oral health and aspiration pneumonia has been reported in several studies. When the oral cavity is burdened by bacterial colonization, the risk of aspiration pneumonia increases, particularly in at-risk populations. This symposium will cover the following aspects of the aspiration pneumonia and oral infection connection: epidemiology, pathogenesis, review of clinical evidence, and implications for prevention | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
