Challenges and Opportunities for Bioengineering Oral Tissues

Sponsored by: Craniofacial Biology, Periodontal Research, Pulp Biology
Description: The replacement of defective oral/dental tissues by tissue engineering will revolutinize the practice of dentistry in this century. The objectives of this symposium are to present the latest knowledge and technologies in therapeutics aimed at restoring normal structure and function to both soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Topics selected are in emerging areas of craniofacial biology research and cover cross-cutting themes of growth and development, stem cell biology, regenerative medicine and the use of autologous cells and bioactive extracts. Attention will be drawn to the challenges facing clinicians and scientists involved in periodontal regeneration and the natural replacement of dental tissues. Information presented will appeal to a wide audience of clinician-scientists and educators as well as predoctoral and graduate dental students
