Sponsored by: Behavioral Sciences, IADR ad hoc Committee on Tobacco | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Description: Healthy People 2010 represents the third time that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has developed 10-year health objectives for the Nation. Healthy People 2010 has two overarching goals: to increase the quality and years of healthy life and to eliminate health disparities. The Oral Health focus area contains 17 objectives. The American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and HHS signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide a framework for cooperation to help achieve selected Healthy People 2010 oral health objectives. The AADR specifically identified the oral cancer objectives as one content area they wished to help achieve. The purpose of the symposium is to provide background on Healthy People 2010 with a focus on the oral cancer objectives, as well as about new innovative research designed to achieve these objectives. Because oral cancers are a universal problem, yet often ignored, international perspectives will be provided on how global initiatives might impact on achieving U. S. oral cancer objectives. The symposium is supported by NIDCR, NCI, and Procter & Gamble | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
