Photodynamic Therapy of Infectious Diseases: Prospects for Controlling Periodontal Biofilms

Sponsored by: Periodontal Research
Description: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses a non-toxic dye (termed a photosensitizer) and visible light, which, in the presence of oxygen, produce cytotoxic species. All the available evidence suggests that PDT can kill multi-antibiotic-resistant bacteria, including oral species in biofilms, without development of bacterial resistance
