Ethics, Research, and Social Values: Dental Research in a Changing World

Sponsored by: Plenary
Description: What is the dental community's responsibility for the oral health of the public? What is the responsibility of the dental researcher as part of that dental community? What are the mechanisms for discussing oral health research priorities and allocating resources? Arguing from a moral framework, Dr. Mouradian will consider evolving needs in oral health and the role of the academic dental center and its research infrastructure in responding to these needs. Dr. Mouradian will explore these and other issues using examples drawn from children's oral health and other areas. Leadership from the oral health research community must be forthcoming to identify critical research priorities. Without such leadership, oral health research–and oral health care–risk irrelevancy in a changing society
