3403 Service Quality from Patients' Perspectives in Dental Clinics

Objectives: The quality of health care is an important issue today. We should realize the concept of quality and the way to measure it. Nowadays, the professional judgments of quality is prevailing, quality from patients' perspectives is less concerned. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the service quality of patients' perspectives from the dental clinics. Methods: The study was based on a discharged survey during March through May, 2003 on 6 clinics. 230 patients (male=101, female=129) participated in this study. A questionnaire was used to record the marriage status, monthly income, and career; the condition of medical care and treatment; the choosing factors in medical seeking; the attitude of receptionists, appointers and assistants; the condition of disinfections; and the requirements about medical environment. Data were analyzed using EXCEL software. ANOVA was performed within the 95% interval with p=0.05. Results: The results show that there was a statically obvious difference in service quality perspectives among different dental clinic. The patients pay most attention in the understanding of medical condition and the cleanly environment. 27.3% of the patients chose the dental clinic nearby their houses. Conclusions: The research result can be used as a reference for the clinical directors. It is suggest that the correct concepts to manage a dental clinic are to educate the workers in the dental clinic with the right concepts in promoting the service quality, and attracting more customers by increasing the identification from patients.
