Methods: Five primers used were silane coupler {SC, Clearfil Porcelain Bond Activator (Kuraray)}, resin bonding agent {RBA, Clearfil New Bond (Kuraray)}, silane coupler + resin bonding agent (SC+RBA), prepared zirconate coupler (ZC), and zirconate coupler + resin bonding agent (ZC+RBA). A piece of tape with a circular hole of 5 mm in diameter was positioned on the surface of the sintered zirconia ceramic specimens to standardize the area of the bond. Specimens were untreated (None) or treated with one of the five primers. Subsequently, the resin luting cement was brushed onto the ceramic surface to a thickness of approximately 50 µm and cured for 20 s using a visible-light-curing source. A brass ring was placed over the tape. The ring was filled with a self-curing acrylic resin. Specimens were stored in water at 37ºC for 24 hrs before shear bond strength testing. Means and SDs (in parenthesis) of shear bond strength (MPa) are listed. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls test (p<0.05). Results: None; 8.6 (1.2), SC; 11.1 (2.1), RBA; 10.4 (1.3), SC+RBA; 9.2 (1.3), ZC; 10.0 (1.7), ZC+RBA; 13.7 (3.1). Specimens treated with ZC+RBA showed the highest shear bond strength among six treatments. Surface treatment of ZC+RBA showed significantly greater shear bond strength compared with other treatments. Conclusion: These results suggest that the application of mixture of zirconate coupler and resin bonding agent on the sintered zirconia ceramic surface appears to be effective for bonding between zirconia ceramics and dual-cured resin luting cement. | ||
