1796 A 36 Month Clinical Evaluation of Finesse All Ceramic Restorations
D.M. BARNES, D.L. GEORGE, J.C. GINGELL, and E. ADACHI, University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA

Objective:  This study clinically evaluated Finesse all-ceramic restorations (Ceramco, Inc.) when used in conjunction with Calibra resin cement (Dentsply/Caulk).

Methods: Forty posterior and anterior ceramic crowns, 20 ceramic inlays and onlays, and 26 ceramic veneers were placed in 43 patients. Standard ceramic preparations were performed followed by conventional polyvinylsiloxane impression techniques using cord retraction. A resin luting cement was used to insert the restorations following manufacturer's instructions.

Results: Restorations were evaluated at baseline (B), 6, 12, 24, and 36 months using a modified Ryge criteria shown as Alfa percentages:

ConclusionsThe data supports that there were sufficient shades available to obtain desired esthetic result with 98% of all restorations being rated alfa for shade match to Vita (Vident) shade guide. Post operative sensitivity was only found in 3% of the patients, none requiring additional therapy. A bulk fracture occurred in one of 13 onlay restorations recalled (a failure rate of 7%).  In addition, one crowned tooth was extracted due to a root fracture.  All except one of the retained restorations were clinically acceptable at 36 months.  This study was supported by Ceramco, Inc.
