P. BROWN, M. SCHILTZ-TAING, L. SHARP, and B.I. SUH, Bisco, Inc, Schaumburg, IL, USA OBJECTIVE: To determine if dual-curable adhesives bond equally to dentin. METHODS: The control sets consisted of 32% phosphoric acid, UniEtch (BISCO), for 15s, rinsed, and then followed by the application of the adhesives according to manufacturer's instructions using their corresponding dual-cure activator. A total of 15 specimens were fabricated on human dentin for each adhesive group. The adhesives consisted of All-Bond 2 as a control [AB2] (BISCO), a simplified experimental version of All-Bond 2 [AB2-EX] (BISCO), Cabrio [CAB] (Discuss Dental), Bond 1 [B1] (Pentron Dental), Optibond Solo Plus [Solo+] (Kerr Dental) , IntegraBond [INTEG] (Premier), and Prime & Bond NT [P&BNT] (L.D. Caulk). A self-cured composite, Bisfil 2B (BISCO), was placed into an Ultradent mold (area 0.0444 cm2), and allowed to cure for 15 minutes in a 37○C oven, then stored at 37○C in DI water for 2 hrs. Using the Ultradent blade, the specimens were tested until failure using a universal tester at a speed of 1 mm/min. In addition to testing shear bond strength [SBS], pH measurements were taken of the adhesive/activator mixtures. RESULTS:
CONCLUSION: Using the Student-Newman-Keuls method [p<0.05] statistical analysis yielded four statistically different groupings. AB2-EX and CAB gave SBS values statistically equal to the control [group A]. Comparing final acidity, the highest pH adhesive combination [INTEG] did not yield the highest SBS, nor did the lowest pH [CAB] give the lowest SBS average. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
