SIBLINGs: A Group of Multi-functional Extracellular Matrix Components of Mineralized Tissues
* Poster files available online

Sponsored by: Mineralized Tissue
Description: SIBLINGs are members of a family of extracellular matrix components implicated in dental and bone mineralization. This family includes dentin sialoprotein, dentin phosphoprotein, dentin matrix protein-1, osteopontin, bone sialoprotein, BMPs and another molecule discovered recently, the Matrix Extracellular Phosphoglyco (MEPE) Protein. MEPE is apparently also related to this family. These proteins are recognized to be involved in mineralization porcesses, but also they seem to take part in the signaling pathway. The symposium includes four speakers: J. Sodek (Toronto) SIBLINGs and Mineralization; M. Goldberg (Paris) Compensatory Mechanisms between SIBLINGs; P. Denbesten (San Francisco) MEPE: A New Related Member of the SIBLING family; L. Fisher (Bethesda) SIBLINGs Protective Molecules Against Complement-mediated Attack. The symposium is supported by Colgate and GABA
