D. SELIMOVIC, and M. MEGAHED, Heinrich-Heine-University, Duesseldorf, Germany Objective: Linear IgA disease is an autoimmune subepidermal blistering skin disease, which also affects mucos membranes. We report on a 62-year-old patient with mucosal linear IgA-disease restricted to the oral cavity and the conjunctiva. The objective of this trial was to assess the therapeutic efficacy of a combined application of topical tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) on mucosal linear IgA disease. Methods: The diagnosis of linear IgA-disease was confirmed via histopathology, direct and indirect immunofluorescence. Tacrolimus 0.1% ointment was applied with the help of a gauze on the patient's buccal mucosa twice daily, MMF was concomitantly administered in a dosage of 2 grammes per day. Routine laboratory studies and other recommended laboratory tests for MMF were performed at regular intervals. Results: The conjunctival lesions improved markedly within 3 months of the treatment and the progression of the disease stopped. Under the application of MMF the oral lesions showed a slight improvement. After 3 months of additional local application of tacrolimus the lesions improved greatly. No side effects were observed. Conclusion: A combined therapy of topical tacrolimus and MMF seems to be a new effective and safe therapeutic regimen for mucosal linear IgA-disease.
