Methods: Twenty brain heart infusion agar plates were inoculated with two different microorganisms, E. Faecalis (ATCC 29212) and S. Aureus (ATCC 6538). Five wells were prepared in each plate. Each sealer was prepared according to the manufacturers instructions and placed into two plates which were inoculated with one of the test microorganisms. A total of 10 observation areas were used to evaluate each sealer. Plates were then incubated at 37oC. After varying periods of incubation (24 h, 48 h, 7 days and 10 days), the zones of inhibition of bacterial growth were observed and measured. Data were statistically analyzed using Tukey Honestly Significant Difference Test. Results: Within all groups, the size of the inhibition zone did not change after the first observation at 24 h. New root canal sealer RC sealer and Roekoseal did not show inhibition zone to both test microorganisms. Sealapex showed no inhibition to E. Faecalis. There was no statistically significant difference between antibacterial activity of AH plus (1.44±0.04) and Sultan (1.5±0.00) for E. Faecalis (p>0.05). Sealapex (3.62±0.08) and Sultan (3.75±0.19) root canal sealers exhibited clinically relevant antimicrobial activity to S. Aureus and their antimicrobial activity were significantly greater than AH Plus (1,5±0.00) root canal sealer (p<0.05). Conclusion: RC Sealer and Roekoseal exhibited no inhibition zone in agar plates inoculated with both test microorganisms. | ||
