DOGON2, 1 The Nippon Dental University, Tokyo, Japan, 2 Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, USA Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the resin hardening capacities of various LED light curing units compared with a Xenon and a Halogen units. Methods: 5 LED light curing units, Aqua Blue;AQ, Eliper FreeLight;EL, Coolblu 2;CO, Radius;RA, Luxomax;LU, 1 Xenon unit, Credi 8000;CR, and 1 Halogen unit, Optilux 501;OP were used. 8 light-cured resin composites filled in the mold of -4.0x7.0 mm were cured for 10 sec by the direct light (D) with from the 7 units. The hardening-depth of the cured resin was measured after a ultrasonic treatment in 1 ml aceton-bath for 3 min. The hardening-depth of Z250 (3M ESPE) cured for 30 sec by D condition and the transmitted light pass through a human enamel-dentin specimen (T) and a hybrid ceramics specimen (R), 3.0mm thick, were also measured. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and Bonferroni test. Results: Mean hardening-depths of 8 light-cured resin composites cured by D with CR/OP/AQ/EL/CO/RA/LU were 5.5/4.8/4.2/4.1/4.0/3.9/3.1 mm. There were significant differences in the hardening-depth among a group of Xenon and Halogen light curing units and any one of 5 LED units at p<0.01. Mean hardening-depths of Z250 cured by D with CR/OP/EL were 6.7/6.1/5.4, 4.5/3.5/3.3 by T, and 3.7/3.0/2.4 by R. Difference in light conditions influenced significantly the hardening-depth at p<0.01 regardless of light unit. The hardening-depth of EL was statistically smaller than those of CR and OP at p<0.01 regardless of light condition, except the value cured by T compared to OP. Conclusion:: Resin hardening capacities of various LED light curing units under D condition were inferior to those of Xenon and Halogen units. Particularly the capacity of EL under R condition was also inferior to those of OP and CR, however the performance of EL under T condition was similar to that of OP. | ||
