DE GOES, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Piracicaba, Brazil Objectives: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the surface preparation and metal conditioner priming effects on bonding of two adhesive luting composite systems to cast titanium. Methods: eighty rod specimens (1.3mm diameter) cast from 99.7% pure titanium(Rematitan®;Dentaurum) were ground (#180, #400, #600 and #1000 abrasive papers). Forty specimens were sandblasted with 50µm aluminium oxide. A rod (1.3mm diameter) of Panavia® ; (Kuraray) or RelyX ARC® ; (3M) were bonded on the specimens surfaces. In half specimens of each composite the metal conditioners recommended by manufacturers were applied on the surface before the bonding of the composites. Thus, eight test groups resulted : Group1(G1)-Panavia F bonded to polished titanium with metal conditioner (MC); Group2(G2)-Panavia F bonded to polished titanium without MC; Group3(G3)-Panavia F bonded to sandblasted titanium with MC; Group4(G4)-Panavia F bonded to sandblasted titanium without MC; Group5(G5)-RelyX ARC bonded to polished titanium with MC; Group6(G6)-RelyX ARC bonded to polished titanium without MC; Group7(G7)-RelyX ARC bonded to sandblasted titanium with MC; Group(G8)-RelyX ARC bonded to sandblasted titanium without MC. After 24h 37°C water storage the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) test was performed. Three way ANOVA (0.05) and Tukeyxs tests (0.05) were used to statistical analysis. Results: the statistical analysis revealed that MTBS values were affected by all factors tested. The greatest MTBS mean was reached by G3(15,81Mpa) followed by G4(15,67MPa), G1(12,66MPa), G7(10,18MPa), G5(9,66MPa), G2(9,56MPa), G8(7,37MPa) and G6( 3,18 MPa). There was not statistical significant difference only between G3 and G4 means, between G5 and G2 means and G5 and G7 means. Conclusions: G3 and G4 presented the greatest MTBS means which showed statistically significant difference from the others; G6 MTBS mean was significantly lower than for the other groups. | ||
