NISHIYAMA, Nihon University School of Dentistry, Tokyo, Japan Objectives: The Three Dimensional Micro Focus CT (3DmCT) has been improved for dental field. The 3DmCT pictures were reconstructed by image analysis program. This 3DmCT image (3DmCTI) showed more detail about inside of specimens three dimensionally. The 3DmCTI was applied for evaluating of new bone formations chronologically with osteogenic bio-cement. Methods: The osteogenic self-setting bio-cement that consisted a-TCP, TTCP, DCPA was synthesized, and it was made paste with distilled water. This paste was filled into holes (f5 x 3 mm) on cranial bone of rabbits for evaluation of osteogenic function chronologically (1W, 2Ws, 4Ws and 12Ws; 5specimens each). The non-filled holes were on the same cranial bone as the control. Every period, soft X-ray pictures, 3DmCTI. (65mA, 65kV, FOV 10mm, 50mm thickness) were taken and H-E stained tissue specimens were made. Results: On the 3DmCTI, the opacity image of trabecula networks was increasing and growing out from the edge to the center of holes with time. And the trabecula thickness (TbTh) were getting thicker, 4.7(1W), 5.3(2Ws), 7.8(4Ws) and 8.9(12W) mm. There was a significant difference between TbTh and periods (ANOVA p<0.05). These trabecula opacity images of 3DmCTI were examined by H-E specimens as new bone formations. Both of the bio-cement and the control group showed new bone formations chronologically. The bio-cement group showed much osteogenic function on soft X-ray pictures, 3DmCTI and H-E specimens than that of the control group. Conclusions: This osteogenic bio-cement formed new bone more than the control group did. The 3DmCTI showed not only the existence of bone but also 3D structures and networks of new bone formations chronologically that soft X-ray pictures or H-E specimen hardly did. This 3DmCTI was useful for evaluating of 3D structures in terms of non-destructive method. This study complied with the guiding principles in the W.M.A. Declaration of Helsinki. | ||
