Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural strength of 5 fiber posts (1 carbon fiber, 1 carbon/quartz fiber, 1 opaque quartz fiber and 2 translucent quartz fiber). Methods: Seventy five fiber posts were used and divided in 5 groups (n=15): Group 1 (C-POST, Bisco) – parallel carbon fiber post (Ø = 1.4mm); Group 2 (ÆSTHETI-POST, Bisco) – parallel carbon/quartz fiber post (Ø = 1.4mm); Group 3 (ÆSTHETI-PLUS, Bisco) – parallel quartz fiber post (Ø = 1.4mm); Group 4 (LIGHT-POST, Bisco) – parallel translucent quartz fiber post (Ø = 1.4mm); Group 5 (D.T. LIGHT-POST, Bisco) – double tapered translucent quartz fiber post (Ø = 1.3mm). All the samples were tested using the three-point bending test. The flexural strength was calculated by the formula =8FL/ π.d3, where “F” is the force applied, “L” is the length of the cylindrical portion of the post that was submitted to the test (6mm), and “d” is the average diameter of the post obtained for six different measurement carried out by micrometer (Mitutoyo, Japan). The averages obtained were changed from Kgf/mm2 to MPa and submitted the ANOVA and Tukey's test (p<0.05). Results: The mean values (MPa) of the groups 2 (67.40b) and 3 (66.41b) were statistically similar and higher than the mean values of the groups 1 (61.83a), 4 (60.87a) and 5 (44.40c). The mean values of the groups 4 and 5 were similar and higher than the group 5. Conclusions: The Æstheti-Post (carbon/quartz fibers) and Æstheti-Plus (quartz fiber) showed higher flexural strength. The diameter decrease can determine the flexural strength decrease of fiber posts, as the D.T. Light-Post which show smaller diameter (Ø = 1.3mm).
