1331 Morbidity in maxillofacial surgery in a hospital of Campeche, Mexico

Objective: To determine the frequency and distribution of the diagnostic that were presented in the department of Maxilofacial Surgery of the HGZ/UMF-1 “Dr. Abraham Azar Farah” at the IMSS Campeche. Methods: A cross sectional, descriptive and retrospective study, between January-94 to December-99 was carried out. The information was obtained from daily registries, surgical list and charts. The data were captured and processing in SPSS. The variables included were: diagnosis, age and sex. We report the results of the descriptive analysis only of the cases. Results: The average of age was 28.42 ±14.35 years old. 41.9% were males. Were found 1611 surgery diagnostics, the mainly diagnosis were: 1) Third molars included (3M) (56.5%); men (M) 33.6% and Women (W) 66.4%, 2) Maxillofacial Fractures (9.4%; H=78.9%, M=21.1%), 3) Complicated Exodontias how: remain root, tooth fracture, tooth that opposed to normal exodontia (except 3M), (7.3%; H=39.4% M=60.6%), 4) Mucous retention cysts (4.6%; H=50.6%, M=49.5%) 5) Teeth supernumeraries (3.3%; H=54.7%, 6) Impacted canines (2.4%); H=54.7% y M=45.3%, 7) Ankyloglossia (1.8%; H=63.3%, M=36.7), 8) Exostosis (1.7%; H=76.1%, M=23.9%, 9) Fibroma (1.4%; H=13.6%, M=86.4%) 10) Papilloma (1.3%; H=33.3%, M=66.7%). With these 10 diagnostic the 89.4% of 1611 subjects were covered. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the major diagnosis found were 3M included and that the diverse diagnosis presented in this population behaved of different way according to age and sex. Epidemiological surveillance and research is essential to support decision-making. cemedinas75@hotmail.com
